Raising Idiocy To An Artform

Hi. Since I'm not very good with introductions, I'll spare you the awkward silence and introduce myself. I'm Matt Rose. I'm an artist out of Detroit, Michigan. Well, not really "Detroit" Detroit. I mean, when non-Detroiters think of Detroit, they think of like... abandoned buildings and mile upon mile of liquor stores and pawn shops. That is not where I live. And I don't mean that in the figurative sense of "Detroit isn't that bad" because one time I saw a bum mug another bum for a doughnut. Try explaining the safety and loveliness of Detroit to your friend visiting from Toronto after seeing something like that. Anyway, what I meant was that I live in the "North of 8 Mile" section of Detroit, otherwise known as the Northern Detroit Suburbs.

Now that I think about it, I'm not really an artist. At least, not anymore. I have a degree in art and I really enjoy art and everything. I just don't really do anything artistic anymore. I used to be an artist. I used to be really creative and would have a lot of ideas for new pieces. Now I just paint the walls in my house crazy colors and try to do the occasional drawing. I'm trying to tap back in to that old font of creativity, and this site is basically the catalyst for that. While I have a pretty good life, I feel like something is missing. When I work on a piece, I don't feel that way anymore. I hope that some day soon I will be able to get close to the level of creativity I once had.

Catharsis aside, this site is also a platform for me to test my programming and design skills (however marginal they may be) and provide others with a source of amusement, whether intentional or not. Feel free to poke around, look at some of my art, read some of my writings, or read my background and get some handle on why I am such a colossal doofus. If you actually like any of the junk I have on here, feel free to subscribe to my RSS feed and marvel at the inconsistency with which I update.
